Storytelling helps to shape our understanding of the abortion care landscape today, as it shifts over time.
Each abortion seeker’s story is unique and can expose the lived experience of some of the intersecting and complicated barriers that they face. Despite these barriers, stories can also reveal the resilience of those accessing care and the kinds of meaningful support that surround them.
While no two stories are the same, we can find empathy, connection, support, and inspiration within them.
Storytelling is one of the most impactful ways we can combat misinformation about abortion access, help pass progressive abortion policy, and raise money for abortion access.
Telling your story can also be empowering and healing. Unfortunately, because there is so much stigma around abortion, it is common for people to feel shame or guilt about their abortion experience. We want to give people the opportunity to tell their story, in their own words, and reclaim that experience. If sharing your story does not feel good for you right now, that is okay – it is always your choice when, if, and how to share your story.
